# Vocaldi

> Vocaldi is a local-first Mac app, currently available as a paid beta, that reads selected or copied text aloud and lets you dictate into any app. Core speech processing runs fully on-device, so the audio and text you process never leave your Mac.

Vocaldi is built for macOS 14 Sonoma or later on Apple silicon. It lets people dictate into any app and read selected or copied text aloud without switching to a separate destination app.

Key facts:

- Dictation: Speech is transcribed on-device with Parakeet TDT 0.6B v3 and inserted at the cursor in any app; 25 languages are supported.
- Read aloud: Selected text, or the clipboard when nothing is selected, is synthesized on-device with Kokoro 82M; 54 voices across 9 languages are included.
- Privacy: Dictation audio, transcripts, and narrated text are processed locally rather than sent to a remote speech service. Core dictation and read-aloud continue working offline after setup and activation.
- Connectivity: Internet access is still used for the initial model download, license activation and occasional checks, app updates, optional content-free diagnostics and crash reports, and feedback the user chooses to send.
- Permissions: Dictation uses Microphone access and Accessibility access for inserting text into other apps.
- Requirements: macOS 14 Sonoma or later on an Apple silicon Mac.
